Oh, my goodness, Dot! What on earth do I say about Bad Dot, Dot-O-Matic, Hot-to-Dot, Poke-a-Dot? This amazing, wonderful, crazy, silly, whirling dervish of sweet and tender joy has been such a fantastic addition to our family. I have never known any creature so full of love for life (and everything else). Dot does not care what it is, as long as she can be a part of it. She thinks the smallest details are endlessly intriguing and is eager to either make a game of it or cuddle up with you while you do.
Dot is so incredibly smart. Yes, I am a doting mother, but she IS incredibly smart. Really. One or two obedience lessons, and she has it down. My show dog handling coach thinks I practice for hours and hours. All I really do is sit Dot down with a handbook and let HER study the footwork. In the show ring, Dot completely shows herself, always to best advantage, and always with a precocious smile on her face.
Dot passed her Herding Instinct Test at six months of age, on the dot. (Ha!) Dot competed in her first herding trial at 9 months of age where she easily completed the AHBA Junior Herding Dog course on goats, which she had never seen before. Dot easily earned her AKC Herding Tested title at her very first trial, even though she hadn't seen either livestock or her handler for four months. I'm telling you, this kid is a herding FIEND!!! Watch out nasty ram. Dot may be small, but she is mighty.
Dot is truly a dream dog. Now that she has finished her third herding championship and is one of the very few AKC Dual Championship Cardigans, I think we'll let her show a bit now and again for the fun of it, maybe work on some Rally titles, and spend some time raising a family.

Dot entered the show ring at 7 months of age, finished her Championship by 10 months, and her Grand Championship at 12 months, making her the youngest Cardigan to have achieved this title at the time. Dot's herding career is no less impressive. She has earned all her titles with placements, achieved multiple High In Trial, multiple High Combined and qualified for her first herding championship through the Australian Shepherd Club of America, a WTCH, at the age of 2 1/2. Dot qualified for her 2nd herding championship (through the American Herding Breed Association a few months later and her third herding championship through AKC while she was four. This makes her the youngest female Cardigan ever to be a Dual Champion, and one of only three or so Cardigans with all three herding championships. Dot is trained and handled in herding by Dawna Simms.
